SEI will hold a biodiversity training and media workshop in Monywa, Myanmar, from 15-17 August 2018. The workshop is co-organized by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and the Myanmar Environment Institute (MEI).

Workshop Objectives

The workshop aims to build participants’ capacity to use tools for biodiversity assessment in the Chindwin River Basin.

The media training will build the capacity of local Myanmar media to communicate about development, biodiversity, and livelihoods, and to bridge media, science, and policy to raise public awareness of environmental conservation.

Workshop Activities

During the workshop, media participants will hear from SEI and MEI scientists about the scientific assessment of biodiversity in the Chindwin River Basin. The assessment covers key threats to Chindwin biodiversity, how local people use biodiversity resources to support their livelihoods, and ways to protect biological resources.

Interactive sessions will provide media participants with practical tips on communicating biodiversity and local livelihood issues, researching sources, conducting interviews, and identifying audiences for their stories.
